Capital News Continues Coverage of Days Cove Discharge Permit

Gunpowder RIVERKEEPER wants to sincerely thank Alexandra Marek of Capital News Service for their coverage of the ongoing debate of the Days Cove Rubble Landfill Discharge Permit that would increase the daily limit of leachate that can be dumped by up to 25,000 gallons per day.

Marek provides an overview of the concerns stated by local elected officials, community organizers, and local residents in regard to the weakening of the current permit. Marek provides testimony from County Councilman David Marks who is on record saying “There’s no benefit to Baltimore County. It’s completely beneficial to those making a profit.”

Gunpowder RIVERKEEPER and Executive Director Theaux Le Gardeur were also mentioned within the article. Here Mr. Le Gardeur explains his concern that the permit application is missing information that the public should be aware of. Le Gardeur states that “It is important for people to understand that if endangered species are within the basin it would be reasonable to assume that the public notice would indicate that.”
