On Tuesday October 20th, ten volunteers from KCI Technologies Inc., a local engineering consultancy, joined Gunpowder RIVERKEEPER® staff at the Sparks Bank Nature Center to volunteer their time.
Volunteers met at 9 am to get started helping us move furniture, test our aquarium waters, prepare for monitoring, landscape, clean, and service the ten wader wash stations on Big Gunpowder Falls.
Volunteers were eager to escape their daily routines and to help give back to the community through their service and labor. Gunpowder RIVERKEEPER® staff were eager to share our knowledge of the rivers and to hear about the volunteers expertise in water quality and related fields.
Thanks to KCI for helping to plan this exciting day of volunteer engagement at Sparks Bank Nature Center and to all of the volunteers for their hard work in the Nature Center, on the Nature Center, in the meadow, and around the park at the wader wash stations.
If you’d like to get involved as an individual, fill out our volunteer form, support our work with a donation, or check out our next volunteer opportunity to learn how to service wader wash stations. If you have a group interested in volunteering, send us an email at gunpowderriverkeeper@gmail.com.

Thanks also to Rori West for helping us document all of the hard work everyone did. Photography by Rori West.
