Gunpowder RIVERKEEPER is excited to welcome back Jenn Galler for her second summer researching microplastics along the Gunpowder.
Jenn Galler is in her second year of grad school at Johns Hopkins University studying Environmental Sciences and Policy. She is also a Community Organizer for Blue Ridge Environmental Defense League. Last summer, Jenn monitored with Gunpowder Riverkeeper for bacteria and PFAs in the Gunpowder River and did a poster presentation at the Maryland Water Monitoring Conference in December. She is now back this summer to do water monitoring for microplastics in the waterways.
She will be collecting samples then setting up a small research station at the Nature Center to analyze her samples and count how many microplastics per liter of water there are. The research will hopefully engage visitors at the Nature Center and Riverkeeper can use it for data when talking to industrial companies about water quality.
